FAQ

Common questions

What actually moves the XAU/USD price?

Gold responds mainly to the US dollar, real interest rate expectations, and demand for a safe store of value during uncertainty. Because it pays no yield, higher rates tend to weigh on it. Central bank buying and physical demand also matter. None of these give a reliable short-term signal, so treat them as context, not as a trigger.

Is gold more volatile than the currency pairs I am used to?

Gold can move sharply, and because one standard lot is 100 oz, a small price change produces a large dollar swing. One pip is 0.01, so a move of a few dollars is hundreds of pips. That is why position size and stop distance matter more here than the direction you pick.

Why is the gold price quoted around 4275.0 on your pages?

That figure is a reference price used so the calculators return sensible worked examples, not a live quote. The market price changes continuously while trading is open. Before you size a position, replace the reference with the current XAU/USD price from your own platform or the live price page.

Does the gold market ever close?

Yes. XAU/USD trades in sessions across the globe and closes over the weekend, with daily breaks around the rollover. Outside those windows the price is frozen and orders may not fill. The trading hours page sets out the liquid windows in Kenyan local time so you can plan around them rather than discover them mid-trade.

Should I trade gold in dollars or convert my thinking to shillings?

Price your risk in dollars, because that is how XAU/USD and your margin are calculated, then convert the result to KSh to see what it means for your account. The conversion rate your broker applies is a cost you cannot ignore. Keeping both figures in view prevents unpleasant surprises when you withdraw.
